Gymnastics

Our gymnastics classes teach skills on multiple gymnastics apparatus. Gymnastics classes are separated by gender, boys and girls, with the exception of Preschool Gymnastics. Each class will focus on the corresponding (Men’s and Women’s) gymnastics events.

At Waves, progression is the name of the game! Our coaches follow progressive lesson plans that use “drills” to teach skills using proper technique. Drills are movements on gymnastics equipment that students perform on their own. They’re like the building blocks for more complex gymnastics skills.

Our students’ safety is our #1 priority - that’s why we put heavy emphasis on proper technique, and allow our students to learn and excel at their own pace!

Gymnastics classes are divided by age and skill level to ensure safety and optimal skill advancement. Read more about our classes below.

Our Classes

  • Preschool Gymnastics

Preschool gymnastics is an entry level class for students ages 3-5, with a focus on following directions and pathways.

Students will practice flexibility, strength, coordination, balance and body positions using gymnastics equipment. The goals for this class are individual - each student will excel in their own way and at their own pace. This class is full of modifications for multiple learners.

  • Basic Gymnastics

Basic gymnastics is for students ages 5-11 with little or no gymnastics experience.

Students will learn basic skills using the proper technique to create a strong foundation and ensure their safety as they learn more advanced skills.

A typical class will start with a group warm up, instruction on 2 events, and finish with a short closing activity.

  • Intermediate Gymnastics

Intermediate gymnastics is an “invitation only” class for students ages 5-11 who have shown mastery of the basic gymnastic skills, and the ability to follow directions and make corrections.

Using drills and short routines, students will learn more about conditioning, flexibility and strength in order to perform more advanced skills.

  • Advanced Gymnastics

Advanced gymnastics is available for students ages 5-11 once they have mastered their basic and intermediate skills with the proper technique.

This class is an hour and a half long, including drills on technique, and conditioning and flexibility time. Students will also be putting together short routines that include learned skills.
